The main idea here is how land is spread out across the planet in terms of use and cover. A large portion of Earth’s land is taken up by farming, grazing lands, and forests. Croplands are where crops are grown for food and resources, grasslands and pastures are used for grazing livestock, and forests provide timber, habitat, and various ecosystem services. These categories together cover far more land than other uses. Water bodies aren’t land in the first place, deserts are a land type but occupy a smaller area globally, and urban areas, while growing, still represent a relatively small fraction of the total land.
